Hydraulic Steering Racks (10)

The main rack shaft in a Hydraulic powered steering rack has a piston attached, and the pinion of a hydraulic steering rack has a control valve built around it. This Hydraulic steering system has been in use for over 40 years and is still in use today.

How it Works

When the pinion valve is turned, it controls the fluid that is supplied by the power steering pump and directs the fluid to the piston attached to the main rack shaft, at this point the fluid forces against the piston to give the steering assistance. A hydraulic steering rack requires feed from either a hydraulic or electric hydraulic power steering pump.
